minimialism

It seems that my blog has taken a simpler look and feel the past few weeks and I wanted to make note of that. I have always appreciated the art of living with only the bare necessities, but minimalism is much more than that. The cleanliness of what one lives with and wears makes as much, or even more, of an impact as the amount of it there is. Think quality over quantity.

Minimalism also incorporates a maximized utilization of space. A chrome floor may be clean and slick, but it is important to make the most of that floor, perhaps by creating a space underneath it for storage. There seems to be more to minimalism than just what one initially sees.

In terms of fashion, minimalism is best thought of as clothing designed with the goal of reducing as much drag as possible, kind of like how an airplane is designed. This is why minimalist fashion oftentimes calls for form fitting garments with minimal alterations or embellishments to the fabric. To compensate for the lack of something obvious that makes a piece "special," great minimalist designers like Jil Sander or Nicolas Ghesquiere focus more on fabric and the construction of their clothing, in addition to the fit.
